Employee Counselling (EAP)

What is the Employee Assistance Plan?
Most MGEU members have access to an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP), which helps them and their families with problems that have an impact on their home or work life. The program is both confidential and completely voluntary. If you’re not sure if your collective agreement includes access to the EAP, contact the MGEU Resource Centre at 982-6438 (toll-free 1-866-982-6438).

How can the EAP help me?
Just as all of us occasionally suffer from some physical illness or disability, we can also experience personal or emotional difficulties at some point in our lives. Most of the time, we are able to solve our problems with the help of family or friends. Sometimes, though, the problem persists and becomes overwhelming, affecting our life at work and at home. So the program was developed to help employees and their families deal with problems before they negatively impact an employee’s family and work life.

What kinds of problems does the program deal with?
The EAP deals with a wide range of personal issues, including:
* health concerns;
* individual problems relating to anxiety, depression, stress and grief;
* problems associated with addiction such as alcohol, gambling and drugs; and
* family problems.

How do you go about getting help?
If you are unsure which program you belong to you can call the MGEU Resource Centre in Winnipeg at 982-MGEU, or outside Winnipeg toll free at 1-866-982-MGEU.
