Learn More About The MGEU

With over 32,000 members, the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union is Manitoba’s largest union, representing a broad spectrum of workers in every corner of the province - including those working in the civil service, Crown corporations, universities and colleges, arts organizations, health care facilities, social service agencies and the service industry. In other words, the MGEU represents members who are as diverse as the services that Manitobans enjoy every day.

Today, what started out as a benevolent fund and social club for provincial civil servants in the early 1900s, now oversees over 150 collective agreements that cover more than 1,000 job classifications.

We’re about good jobs

Together, our members have the strength and resources to ensure they have a say in their workplaces about the issues that affect their working lives. Every day, union leaders elected from the membership, in cooperation with experienced staff...

Over the years, the work of the MGEU has been driven by a commitment to fairness and respect in our workplaces, our governments, and our communities.

We’re about quality services

Our members know that a well-trained and well-staffed workforce is the key to effective services.

That’s why at the MGEU, we pride ourselves in offering unparalleled supports and professional expertise for our members, and strive to respond to their evolving needs. For instance, we were the first union in Canada to open an extended-hours Resource Centre so our members can get the answers they need, when they need them.

We’re about strong communities

As a strong and successful organization, the MGEU regularly works with community-based charitable groups throughout the province to help improve the quality of life for our members and their families. Through such efforts, and our ongoing commitment to healthy workplaces and quality public services, we help build the cornerstones of strong communities.
